Short answer: Nope, but you don’t need to.
If you’ve got multiple artist names (aliases) registered with ASCAP, BMI, or another PRO, you might have noticed that each alias has its own IPI number. Naturally, you’d think you need to add all of them. But here’s the deal: all your aliases are tied to one main (parent) IPI number.
How PROs Handle IPI Numbers
When you register different artist names with a PRO, they’ll assign a unique IPI number to each alias. But behind the scenes, those alias IPIs all connect back to your main (sometimes called “parent” or “controlled”) IPI number.
That means:
- No matter how many artist names you use, all royalty payments get routed to your main IPI number.
- Adding multiple IPI numbers isn’t necessary, because everything ultimately rolls up under the parent IPI.
What You Should Do
When entering your IPI number on That Pitch, just use the main one. That’s all that’s needed to ensure your music gets tracked correctly.
Not sure which one’s your main IPI? Check your PRO’s website, or reach out to them directly. They’ll have the info you need.
That’s it! You can still upload tracks under different artist names—everything will still be credited correctly.
